Message to school community on the sudden bereavement of Roisin

It is with the greatest sadness and sense of loss that I wish to make it known to all of our school community and the wider communities of Balbriggan and Educate-Together of the untimely death of Roisin Connolly, our loved teacher and colleague. Roisin lost her young life in a tragic car accident in the early hours of this morning outside Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan which also claimed two other lives. Her husband, Stephen, has been badly injured. Roisin’s and Stephen’ unborn baby, Catherine, perished along with her mother.

I wish to express our community’s sympathy to the Langan (Fanad, Co Donegal) and Connolly ( Portarlington, Co Laois) families at this moment of unfathomable grief.

I welcome those of our school community  and from the wider public, who wish to do so, to express their condolences through the comment facility attached to this message. I will ensure to print out and pass on all the condolences messages to Stephen and the Connolly and Langan families. In response to the huge uptake of this facility we will keep this ‘book of condolences’ open until mid-January. I wish to express my own gratitude to those staff, parents, children, members of the wider Educate-Together community and members of the public who have done so to date.  Your comments will assuredly bring some solace and peace to Catherine (mother), Eileen ( sister) and Stephen ( husband).

Over the coming week the teachers and school management  will draw up and deliver an appropriate response and strategy for when the children return  on Monday 11th. I wish to reassure parents that this response will be appropriate to the age of the children and our religous and cultural diversity.  We have consulted with support agencies and will bring our highest sense of professionalism to the weeks and months ahead. Our ‘guidelines’ to teachers will be made available in the school office to any concerned parent to peruse, and I will be available anytime to discuss any emerging issues; the office door is always open. Similarly, I would ask that all our parents take the time to talk about  Roisin’ s death with your own children in advance of returning to school.

Roisin, you were such a wonderful friend – fun, caring, thoughtful. I always felt the world was better after spending time with you. I am so lucky to have been on the masters program in St. Pats with you as you were always brightening up even the dullest of lectures with the twinkle in your eye. I really enjoyed spending time hanging out before college discussing the world. The last time we met you had come to visit and meet my little Laura. You were on top of the world and so excited about your pregnancy. It is such a tragic loss that you are no longer with us. My deepest sympathies are with Stephen and Roisin’s family for their unimaginable loss.
    Love, Fiona

We were all so shocked to hear of the tragic loss of Roisin. Such a happy, smiling, loving, caring person to leave this world so early is such a terrible shame. Our thoughts are with Roisin’s family and Stephen and his family, may they find the strength to get through this terrible time.

I will never forget the day I happened to be in the school when the school magazine arrived from the printers….. The squeals of delight from Roisin as she flicked through the pages was contagious! She had such a generous personality and she will be very sorely missed by students, staff and parents alike. RIP Roisin and baby Catherine

Roisin your beauty was a delight to behold. Your wonderful Smile translate positive assurance to all who are meeting with you. You supported all parents who came to you. While you where here in BETN you surrounded the school with your grace, love and infectious similes.
Imoesi talked of what he learnt from you while working in the Student council and how you supported him in carrying out his role. This washed out his initial apprehension.

The memories of you leaves in me, that one has to Simile to find similes.

O God, Grant that Stephen Connolly, will find understanding and con forth in you. May your grace and infinite Love fill Catherine and Eileen langan, as they mourn.
Eternal rest grant Roisin and Catherine Langan Connolly. Amen.

Roisin was my first teacher in my life.In BETNS she was a very friendly lady she’s so caring and she’s always looking after us. She was the best teacher in the class. When heard the news from my mummy it was a big shock for me and i thought it can’t be the same Roisin when we came back to school it was the worst day of my life because all the teachers were so sad.I hope every one misses her so much. You are a caring mother to our school may your soul rest in peace.
